- : even seen an A1200 before)
-
- that's normal for AGA. AGA is run in a display mode
- that can acess planes with less dma.
- this is handled by fmode register, and a intuitionscreen will
- set it to new acess mode but A500 games won't reset it.
-
- as unfortunately the other displayregisters need different values
- for standard 320x256 display, A500 gamescreens are screwed up.
-
- The early startup will make the system use old fetchmode.
- however then you can't have modi that need more dma
- than 8 planes lores, 4 planes hires, or 2 planes shres, and
- blitting will become as slow as on A500 (due to more dma
- in old fetchmode).
-
- on aminet there is a programm called killaga, it resets the bit
- when starting a program. it also turns instruction cache off.
- this will make A500 selfmodifying games run, but as the cpu
- got to load instructions from memory, too, your A1200 will
- get almost as slow as an A500 in that mode (if you got no
- fastmem).
-
- not good, but doesn't matter for those games that run 50Hz on A500 ;)
-
- wanna have your a1200 cpu running averagely 2 times faster ?
-
- then just buy a fastmem extension, incresed acess times allow 2 times
- faster acess.
- Also cpu will run normal speed if chipmem is slowed down by display
- dma (SHRES 8 planes is a killer if cpu works in chipmem).
-
- or check if you wanna invest a bit more money into a turbo for
- 4 or more times speedup.
